Hay, that's interesting!

At Hildebrand Farms Dairy, they have about 2,000 acres of farmland dedicated to growing the mixed ration that the cattle eat. Each batch is unique -- the hay, for example, is harvested and allowed to ferment. It's then tested and based on the nutrients in each batch, the recipe for the feed is modified. The recipe that Melissa used four years ago wouldn't be the right mix this year -- who knew that grasses like hay would offer different nutrient and mineral levels each harvest season?
