Meet the Makers: Film screenings and wine tastings to celebrate our new documentary

Join us in wine country for the premiere of Winemaking in Missouri: A well-cultivated history, Emmy-winning producer Cat Neville's new documentary on the history of Missouri wine.

tasteMAKERS’ hour-long documentary traces the nearly 200-year history of Missouri's rich winemaking past, exploring the industry's German roots, the role Missouri played in solving the phylloxera expidemic, the impact of Prohibition and winemaking's resurgence in the 1960s and '70s. Come join us in the heart of wine country and raise a glass to Missouri wine!

These screenings are being held at the wineries featured in the film:

Stone Hill Winery

Sun., May 29; 4 to 6pm: The premiere will take place at Stone Hill Winery, the first winery to reemerge after Prohibition’s devastating blow. The Held family has been at the helm since 1965, but the winery was originally founded in 1847, 175 years ago and only 10 years after the town of Hermann was founded by the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia. Pre-Prohibition, Stone Hill was the second largest winery in the United States (Yes — you read that right!) and today, it’s Missouri’s oldest and most awarded winery, consistently taking home gold medals at wine competitions. A reception and q&a with Jon and Nathan Held will begin the event, followed by the film screening.

Noboleis

Sun., June 12; 1 to 3pm: Located in Augusta, the country’s first American Viticultural Area (AVA), Noboleis Vineyards produces award-winning wines in a variety of styles and recently introduced Swirl, a line of canned wine-based cocktails. This family-run winery was founded in 2005 when Bob and Lou Ann Nolan purchased 84 acres of land and set to work planting vineyards in the mineral-rich soil of this storied wine region. Guests at this screening will be encouraged to stick around after the film to enjoy live music and while away the rest of the afternoon overlooking the winery’s vineyards.

St. James Winery

Sat., June 25; 4 to 6pm: St. James was founded in 1970 by Jim and Pat Hofherr, who looked to the region’s Italian roots to inform the new winery’s approach to winemaking. Today, their son, Peter, oversees the winery’s operations with a focus on sustainability and quality. St. James is the largest winery in Missouri and is consistently one of the top five gold medal-winning wineries in the country. Join us at this game-changing winery for the screening and then enjoy dinner at Public House Brewery, adjacent to the winery’s beautiful garden.
