Congrats to the makers who won 2020 Good Food Awards!

Once a year, about 2,000 makers from across the country compete in the Good Food Awards, which honor “crafters at the vanguard of deliciousness and social and environmental excellence.” On Friday, January 17, 2020, at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center, six of the makers we’ve covered in were among the 417 artisans celebrated for the quality and integrity of their products.

tasteMAKERS would like to extend congratulations to Green Dirt Farm, Atlantic Sea Farms, Smoking Goose Meatery, Treaty Oak Distilling, Roots Kitchen and Cannery and Jacobsen Salt Co. In order to win a Good Food Award, entrants must pass multiple rounds of evaluation, the first being a blind taste test. Each category has its own set of expert judges. The top contenders from the taste test are then vetted thoroughly to ensure they meet specific ethical and environmental standards set by the Good Foods Foundation.

Three winners from each region are selected per category. The awards are given regionally in order to fairly represent the good food movement across the country and the diverse foods found in each part of America. According to the Good Food Awards’ website, regional judging is in place to “encourage food producers and small farmers in every pocket of the country.”

Check out the winning tasteMAKERS below, and click on the links to learn more and watch the episodes! Congratulations to these makers, and all of the others who won Good Food Awards — through their work, they are helping to further the maker movement and spread the importance of good food!
