Meet the Makers: Austin
Edward jones private event
On Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, nearly 60 Edward Jones Financial Advisors and their families and friends joined together at Barton Springs Mill’s new location, which is located adjacent to the grounds of Treaty Oak Distillery. The evening included delicious wood-fired pizza from Abby Jane Bakeshop, king cake and savory bites from Easy Tiger and porky treats like the Pig Face Sandwich Sour Duck Market, all made with grains from Barton Springs Mill. Treaty Oak, which just won a Good Food Award for their Ghost Hill Bourbon, poured cocktails as well as their beers and wines made from Texas grapes.
The event began with TasteMAKERS host and producer Cat Neville conducting a live interview with James Brown, owner of Barton Springs Mill. He founded the Mill in 2016. The decision to move the mill closer to Treaty Oak stemmed from Brown’s wish to have the entire process of using producing and using grains occur within 10 paces or less. To that end, Abby Jane Bakeshop will be opening inside of the Mill, using Brown’s grains as key ingredients in their recipes.
In a way, the evening was a first-look at a 17,000 square-foot work-in-progress. This was the first time Barton Springs’ new location was open to the public. Guests had the opportunity to tour the mill, where Barton Springs will mill over 1.7 million pounds of grain annually for Treaty Oak alone. After the mill tour, guests went on a tour of the distillery, where they were able to sample some of the many spirits made by Treaty Oak.
The evening was a fabulous way to thank Edward Jones for its support and celebrate the Maker Movement.
