Wild Vines That Survived Prohibition

During Prohibition, the government ripped out vineyards and destroyed winemaking equipment. But they didn't get everything!

At Adam Puchta Winery in Hermann, Missouri, there is a forest on the edge of the vineyard that is full of grapevines that wind all the way up to the tops of the trees. There are plans in the works to harvest some of the grapes the vines produce and test them in the hope that the type of grape can be identified, vines propagated and the historic vineyard brought back to life.
