Re-wilding a Corner of the Farm
At Castor River Habitat & Farm in Missouri, farmer Johnny Hunter has taken land out of cultivation in order to re-wild a section of his farm. "Let's let this corner [of the farm] go back to nature and let's see what the ramifications are," he says. "We're creating habitat below the surface of the soil ... and we're also creating habitat above the surface of the soil for all these other creatures."
Balance is achieved when the beneficial bugs and animals like birds and possums come in to eat the pests. "Every organism on this farm and in this habitat, it serves a purpose."
